During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, Shandong has spearheaded the cultivation of child-friendly cities tailored to its unique characteristics, emphasizing environments conducive to children's learning and development.
With a focus on social policy friendliness, accessible public services, protection of children's rights, and growth spaces, the province has outlined 24 key tasks. Initiatives such as universal childcare and efficient healthcare services have been prioritized, with over 10 billion yuan ($1.39 billion) in central funds allocated to support major projects ensuring that children can grow and develop in a safe environment.
Cities like Jinan, Qingdao, Zibo, Weifang, Jining, Weihai, Rizhao, Liaocheng, Binzhou, Heze, Yantai, Linyi, and Dongying have been selected for development into national child-friendly cities.
Moving forward, Shandong will guide cities in implementing effective reform measures, emphasizing quality project construction, and promoting innovative practices. By championing child-friendly initiatives, Shandong aims to enhance the equality of public services, ensuring the well-being and security of its residents.
